12 Springs Equally Tempered

AudioScape’s hardware version of the XL-305R has its roots in the digital-free XL-305 Spring Reverb released by Micmix in 1979. An immediate success, it quickly found its way into major studios worldwide. Owing to its smooth decay and unique sonic signature, it has been a secret weapon reverb over the years and has gained cult-like status. Unlike many spring reverbs, this spring assembly has 12 springs tuned together making it equally tempered, very similar to opening the lid of a piano, holding the damper open and singing into the strings . Working from this core design principle, we re-imagined the rest of our hardware version of the XL-305R from the ground up. After four years of R & D under the direction of Wayne Kirkwood (original designer of the XL-305), we brought our take on this ground-breaking design from the last century into this one. 

Now we’re proud to bring you the software version of this classic with our new XL-305R Equally-Tempered Spring Reverb plugin. We’ve stayed true to our philosophy of more-real-than-recreated by making this plugin nearly a doppelganger of our hardware offering.

• INPUT controls drive the signal to the tank, signal overload LEDs son each channel

• MIX controls blend the wet/ dry ratio

• 4-band boost/cut EQ on each channel, for shaping the tone of the wet signal

• Mono Drive Lighted Push-button Switch stereo links the channels together ,and makes it easier to bring the stereo image together

• Mono Return Lighted Push-button Switch sends the signal from the Reverb assembly out, summed to mono

• LED indicators on the right side of the unit allow the user to monitor the total output level of the Reverb itself

The Golden 58 Tube Preamplifier / Saturator Plugin is a Modern Classic!

The original circuit was developed by Chris Yetter and his team at AudioScape.

Chris says: ”The circuit is all original, based around the 5879 tube (hence the name Golden 58), which is the US military equivalent of the EF86 tube used in famous British preamps. In fact, we feel it is very much the American Answer to those Classic preamps from across the pond, the Tele V series and 47 style preamps, with a few tasteful upgrades to bring it from yesteryear into the modern age. With the handy voice filters and separate Line Input jacks, this simple, yet elegant, preamp can cover a lot of ground.”

The hardware version of the Golden 58 was always fated to be a limited run. Using parts like four NOS transformers per unit, and hard to source 5879 tubes ensured that. But, the radiant warmth and saturation of the original is now available again with the Golden 58 Plugin. Some new enhancements have been added to the plugin like an Auto-Gain control for more consistent output levels following the Saturation/ Harmonics stage, and Output Trims, which give the user even more saturation options.

The AudioScape V-Comp+ “Deluxe 6386 Edition” is our enhanced take on a legendary variable-gain, all-tube compressor made in the 1950’s. Originally designed for broadcast, it gained a reputation among engineers and producers as one of the most musical and effortless compressors ever created.

The MK-609 Precision Stereo Diode Limiter/Compressor Plugin brings our MK-609 to the digital realm, which is well known as one of the most classic bus compressors ever made, the original "Metal Knob" 33609 was based on an older venerated bus compressor design, the 2254, dating back to 1969. The 2254 was integral to some of the most iconic British consoles of yesteryear. By utilizing a unique diode-bridge circuit topology, this design uses an internal side-chain, rather than the direct signal, to make it's dynamic adjustments.
